Abdul: ‘I inspired Rihanna & Beyonce’· 4 Comments · Rihanna-esque · |
“American Idol” judge Paula Abdul is taking the credit for inspiring modern pop stars including Rihanna and Beyonce.
The singer rose to fame in the 1980s, selling more than 23 million records worldwide and topping the American charts six times before taking a musical hiatus in 2000.
She subsequently relaunched her career as a judge on the hit TV talent show and returned to the pop charts in 2008.
And Abdul is convinced her long running career and her forward thinking music videos have paved the way for the music stars of today.
She says,
“My videos stand the test of time. They are like the almanac for every performer. Even Rhianna has come up to me and said ‘I hope you don’t mind.’ And Beyonce. You can see the influence of what I’ve done. It’s really fun to see that I’ve left a mark. It was my idea to create an animated character. It takes a lot of focus, a lot time, and a lot of money.”

Rihanna deserves privacy· 5 Comments · Rihanna-esque · |
From Gina Griffith of The Nation Newspaper in Barbados:
THERE HAVE BEEN numerous calls by people in our society to find ways to honour Rihanna on her international success. Some have called for us to erect structures, others have suggested placing her image at the airport.
I believe that the best way to honour this hardworking young woman is to give her, and any guests she brings along with her, privacy.
When all of us come home from work we don’t like to think our neighbors are spying on us, and furthermore at times we even desire privacy from the others sharing our homes.
So instead of local photographers patterning themselves after the paparazzi, we should respect Rihanna’s need for privacy – something we all require.
