Concert review: Rihanna· 7 Comments · Performances, Reviews · |
FOLLOWING on from the success of her single Umbrella last year, Barbados-born Rihanna squeezed into another tight leather outfit and brought her Good Girl Gone Bad Tour to Belfast.
The show got off to a rocky start after Rihanna kept fans waiting 45 minutes after the support act before she graced the stage.
After coming onto Britney’s Gimme More she belted out her hits Pon De Replay, Unfaithful, Shut up and Drive, SOS, Break it Off and Please Don’t Stop the Music although the biggest audience reaction came from Umbrella.
However, I couldn’t help thinking that Rihanna was a bit out of her depth and did struggle to keep the audience entertained.
This obviously comes with practice; after all she is only 19 so not quite a seasoned performed. There was amazing choreography from the dancers and parts of the show were impressive.
Rihanna has an amazing voice which showed during her acoustic set, she just needs to work on her audience engagement during live shows. Some amazing new releases on the way to look out for.

REVIEW: RIHANNA LIVE AT ECHO ARENA· No Comments · Reviews · |
I had been dying to experience the Echo Arena, which is situated on the King’s Waterfront and seats 10,600 inside, ever since Liverpool had been awarded European Capital of Culture for 2008. So what better way to see it than be in a rather intimate surrounding amongst the likes of Rihanna and David Jordan, who helped warm up the crowd. Considering she’s only 20, Rihanna took Liverpool by storm at the new arena. With her little sexy black outfits and amazing live vocal talent, I was in awe of being in her presence. She opened with a rendition of her first hit, ‘Pon de Replay’, and gave a fantastic performance of both old and new songs from her latest album, ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’, which the tour took its name from. My favourite moment had to be her performance of her latest single ‘Don’t Stop the Music’, which included a set of fluorescent strobe lighting. She closed the show with her ever famous ‘Umbrella’, which managed to remain on the UK charts at no 1 for a consecutive 8 weeks. This was an unforgettable experience and certainly a trip to the Echo Arena should be taken.

Live review: Smile Jamaica/Africa Unite @ James Bond Beach, Jamaica· 6 Comments · Performances, Reviews · |
Last week’s Smile Jamaica/Africa Unite concert had all of the ingredients to make it one of the best events of 2008.
The line up was strong, the venue was on James Bond beach in Oracabessa St. Mary, and with Jamaica celebrating Reggae Month and what would have been Bob Marley’s 63rd birthday, it seemed set to be a big show.
But something was missing… organization.
Tedious band changes after each performance punctured the momentum, to which the host Mutabaruka had a hard job keeping the less than substantial crowd entertained.
Artists including as 2Face Idibia, Bunny Wailer, John Legend and Rihanna wet appetites with energetic performances before Jamaica’s ‘royalty’ took charge…

Rihanna, Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle· No Comments · Reviews · |
Feelings of excitement, cameras and the odd glow stick from fans were waiting to greet Rihanna as she strolled on stage and coolly rocked the roof off (well nearly did) the Metro Radio Arena last night.
For those who don? ? !” t know, Rihanna is the pop princess whose song Umbrella survived three months at the top of the UK singles chart over the summer, winning her millions of fans throughout the country.

Rihanna dons PVC for Metro Radio Arena gig· 1 Comment · Reviews · |
Anyone walking into the Metro Radio Arena late on Thursday night could have been forgiven for thinking they’d walked into a strip club.
But it wasn’t a strip night in Newcastle, it was teenage pop sensation Rihanna in the skimpiest black PVC outfit in existence.
The chart-topper wowed the audience with an energetic show after being forced to cancel three earlier gigs due to ill health.
