YOU have an amazing figure. How do you stay in shape?
A lot of hard work and a lot of running on the treadmill. Cardio is the key. I have a personal trainer who travels with me if we have a big event coming up. I work out every day but I need a trainer to motivate me – I don’t find it much fun working out on my own.

What do you like about your body?
My bum, and I keep working at it as I want it to be perfect. It makes my clothes look good – and guys like it!

Her career (like her image) is on fire: She has worked with music’s biggest names and is racking up accolades. Here, she talks about finding confidence and putting rumors to rest.

When Rihanna strides into a Los Angeles hotel restaurant, the 20-year-old singing sensation looks totally glamorous in a Roberto Cavalli leopard-print wrap that flutters sexily behind her. But that air of sophistication evaporates when she slides into the booth and dives into her Cosmo interview. “Watch out-I love to prank people,” she warns, playfully narrowing her piercing green eyes. Then she launches into a story about how the night before, she squeezed a few drops of lemon juice into her best friend’s mouth while she was sleeping. “You should have seen her face when she woke up and tasted it!” says Rihanna, clearly delighted with her mischievous trick.

This summer, Rihanna had the longest-running British No. 1 single by a female artist since Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You. Her song Umbrella spent ten weeks at the top, transforming the 19-year-old Barbadian from fluffy, frothy popster into international R&B superstar.

So, presumably, she could, if she chose to, make outrageous demands, be accompanied by an army of sycophants, demand things just so or refuse to play ball. But the cramped and freezing backstage area of the Berlin, Germany concert hall where she was about to appear witnessed no hissy fits. Her entourage is tiny, her dressing room curtained off with improvised, gaffer-taped cloth.
