Sean Garrett is the quiet current forcefully washing out any producer who dares step in the booth without that certified hit maker’s touch. He’s produced Usher’s ‘Yeah,’ along with practically every Beyonce joint you shimmy to in the club. LiveSteez recently caught up with the music maven to see which superstars he’s currently working with, and to get the real deal on Sean Garrett, the solo artist.
LiveSteez: Man, Mario’s ‘Break Up’ single with you and Gucci Mane is burning up the charts. Seemed like we hadn’t heard from you in a minute.
Sean Garrett: Every two years or so I have a song that becomes a really big record in my urban sector, to get back to the core of who I really am and what I really am. I always want to let my people know that I’ve had a lot of success in the pop arena, but I never forget the hood. I never forget the clubs. I never forget the strip clubs and I never forget all my female hustlers. Every now and then, I have to do a record to let them know, and my peers know, that it’s not getting cold over here.
LiveSteez: With all these hot producers out here, how do you manage to keep it fresh and new?
Sean Garrett: I work on trying to be really creative. That’s the one thing that I’ve picked up from the past greats, like Teddy Riley. Not only be creative, but create things that make people feel refreshed.
LiveSteez: The roster of artists that you’ve worked with is insane. You’re working with Rihanna and Usher now, right?
Sean Garrett: Yep, I’m working on Usher’s new album. ‘Monster’ speaks to a lot of things. There’s a lot to that word. Good and bad. I’m really happy to be a part of that album because it’s going to be really great. I’m also working on Rihanna’s new album and I’m doing something really different with that venture.
